Urinary Tract System Flashcards
What is an example of a thiazide diuretic
Bendrofulethazide
How well do thiazide drugs work
They increase flow from 1-3ml/min
Moderate potency
Work within 1-2 hours
Work for 24 hours
Where do loop diuretics work
The assessing loop of henle
How do loop diuretics work
. Block sodium chloride potassium secretion
. Increase their secretion and water follows
. Build up of sodium chloride potassium in lumen
An example loop diuretic
Fursomide
How well do loop diuretics work
. Increase from 1-8 ml/min
. Potent
. Take twice a day
Where do potassium sparing diuretics work
The last distal tubule / collecting duct
How do potassium sparing diuretics work
. Increase sodium and water secretion
. Chloride and calcium also secrets
. Potassium and hydrogen decreased
What are three examples potassium sparing diuretics
Amiloride, trianeterene (sodium channel blocker)
Spinolactone (aldosterone antagonist)
Where do anti diuretics work
In the collecting tubule
What do anti diuretics treat
Cerebral diabetes inspidus ( lack of ADH)
How do anti diuretics work
Release p.p ADH
. Increase water channels by V2 receptors
. Increase passive reabsorption of water
. Increase number of channels that let in water
Two example anti diuretics
Vasopressin (v1, increased BP, short acting)
Desmopressin (v2 receptor longer acting)
How do thiazide drugs work
. In the distal convoluted tubule
. Block chloride pumps on apical membranes, sodium and chloride is excreted and water then follows. Potassium also secreted.
