Urinary system Flashcards
What does the urinary system regulate?
blood volume, pH, and blood pressure
What are the parts of the kidneys?
Renal capsule, adipose capsule, renal fascia
Renal hilum?
ureter, blood and lymph vessels
what is the functional unit of the kidneys?
nephron
What are the functions of the nephron?
filtration, tubular secretion, and tubular reabsorption
renal corpuscle is made up of what 2 parts?
bowmans capsule and glomerulus
Bowman’s capsule?
outer membrane-simple squamous epithelium, same for inner membrane.
Podocytes?
cells in the bowman’s capsule
pedicels?
projections from the bowman’s capsule
Filtration membranes 3 parts?
- fenestrated membrane keeps out cells
- basement membrane keeps out large proteins
- slit membrane keeps out medium proteins
Juxtaglomerular apparatus?
helps regulate arterial blood pressure and rate of filtration. Secretes renin when blood pressure is low.
Golmerluar filtration rate?
125 ml/min
Renal threshold?
when plasma concentration exceeds the transport max
micturition?
urinations
blood urea nitrogen?
creatinine is the end product of metabolism
