Urethra
conduit for unrine beginning at the base of the bladder (internal urethral orifice) and terminating externally at the external urethral orifice
Urethral Sphincters
Internal Urethral Sphincter - smooth muscle, involuntary
External Urethral Sphincter - skeletal muscle, voluntary
Females
Urinary function
Short 4cm - fairly straight
Travels inferiorily along a slight curve through the pelvic floor, perineum, and exits anterior to the vaginal opening in the vestibule
Males
Urinary and reproductive function
Long -20cm with 2 major bends
Four partitions:
Preprostatic part - between bladder and prostate
Prostatic part- surrounded by prostate (openings for ejaculatory and male prostatic ducts)
Membranous part - between prostatic and songy parts
Spongy part-surrounded by corpus spongiosum of the penis
Arteries- branches off the
Veins (similar names and distributions as arteries)
