Urban: Issues with Glasgow’s Traffic Flashcards
Narrow CBD roads (olden days)
Streets in the CBD are narrow as this part of the city was developed before cars/roads exsisted
Increased wealth= increased ownership, so what does this cause?
Increased wealth means there are more cars on the roads
Extreme weather, roads get damaged
Due to more extreme weather roads are needing repaired more frequently (e.g. Potholes)
How do repairs cause traffic issues?
Repairs require roadworks, preventing the flow of traffic
People live in the suburbs and commute to city jobs, what does this result in?
The majority of people that work in the city centre live in the surrounding suburbs, creating rush hours in the morning and evening.
Lack of bridges for crossing rivers, so…
as there aren’t many bridging points for motorists to cross the river Clyde, resulting in bottlenecks on exsisting bridges.
