What does the first diagram look like?
Rectangle with a rectangle chunk out of it, water at the bottom of this whole with rocks in it and an arrow pointing downwards
What does the downwards arrow in the first diagram represent?
The vertical erosion that cuts down into the landscape
What process do you explain in the first diagram? (+ definition)
Hydraulic Action. This is when the sheer force of the water enters cracks in the rock, compressing the air and forcing pieces of rock to dislodge.
What are the sides exposed to in the second diagram?
Freeze-thaw weathering
What happens to the pieces of rock that are dislodged in hydraulic action?
They fall into the river below due to gravity.
What does the second diagram look like?
Basically the same as the first but without a downwards arrow and the corners of the rock are eroding.
What do the rocks in the river do? (process & definition)
The rocks in the river assist with abrasion. This is when the force of the water throws bedload against the banks, causing erosion.
