Atmosphere: ITCZ Changing inland rainfall differences Flashcards
1
Q
What is the ITCZ?
A
The ITCZ is a band of low pressure where the trade winds meet.
2
Q
What does the Tropical Maritime do? (precipitation)
A
Maritime air is pushed upwards, cooling and condensing, forming clouds which produce rain
3
Q
Why is the [furthest north location] drier than the south?
A
Because it is affected by the tropical continental air mass for most of the year whereas the south is affected by the tropical maritime for most of the year.
4
Q
Why does the [Costal/Furthest south location] have a twin peak?
A
Due to the ITCZ moving north in the early part of the year and south in the later part of the year, in line with the thermal equator.
