Glaciation: Formation of a Drumlin Flashcards
What are Drumlins made up of & how is this material sorted?
Drumlins are made up of till and boulder clay. Their material is unsorted.
How do Drumlins form? (Ok so this is crazy but think of the snail and the whale by Julia Donaldson. The snail leaves a trail. D for Drumlin. IDK WHY THIS WORKS.)
Drumlins form when a glacier becomes overloaded with sediment and deposits it while the glacier is still moving.
What happens when the temperature rises?
When the temperature rises the glacier melts leaving behind the elongated mound.
What way does the ‘stoss’ side face?
The steep ‘stoss’ side of the drumlin faces up-valley
What way does the ‘lee’ side of the drumlin face?
The more gently-sloping ‘lee’ side of the drumlin faces down-valley
