upper limb to vertebral column muscles Flashcards
Trapezius
large kite shaped superficial muscle connects spine to shoulder
divided into 3 parts: upper, middle, and lower.
trapezius origin
- all down along midline towards spine and median plane
- external occipital protuberance (bony part sticking out of base of skull)
- superior nuchal line (directly below EOP)
- ligamentum nuchae
- spinous process C7
- 12 thoracic vertebrae spines
trapezius insertion
- posterior lateral 1/3 of clavicle
- medial border of acromion
- spine of scapula
trapezius innervation
accessory nerve
trapezius action
- upper fibres elevate the scapula
- middle fibres retract scapula
- lower fibres depress scapula
- rotate the scapula during abduction of humerus
- tilt and extend the neck
latissimus dorsi
looks like wings on lower to mid back
latissimus dorsi origin
- spinous process of T7-T12
- lumbar sacral vertebrae
- posterior 1/3 of iliac crest
- inferior 3-4 ribs
- inferior angle of scapula
latissimus dorsi insertion
floor of the intertubercular/bicipital groove
latissimus dorsi innervation
thoracodorsal nerve
latissimus dorsi action
extends, adducts and medially rotates the arm
levator scapulae origin
transverse process of C1-C4
levator scapulae insertion
- medial border of scapula above spine
- superior angle of scapula
Levator scapulae innervation
dorsal scapular nerve
Levator scapulae action
elevates the medial border of the scapula
tilt the head
rhomboid minor origin
spines of C7 and T1 vertebrae
