Shoulder bones Flashcards
fossa
a pit/indentation/hollow in bone
tubercle
small protruding notch or nodule in bone
process
projection/protrusion or outgrowth from the body
clavicle functions
- Lever/strut for mobility
- passage between neck and arm
- transmits forces from appendicular to axial skeleton
- commonly broken due to intake of force when falling of hands
clavicle articulates with sternum through what joint?
sternoclavicular joint
clavicle articulates with scapula through what joint?
acromioclavicular joint
which end is bulbous
sternal end
which end is flattened
acromial end
conoid tubercle
clavicle
- useful landmark for inferior side
- attachment for conoid ligament
- near acromial end
- posterior side of inferior surface
- small stuck out lump
impression for the costoclavicular ligament
- attachment of clavicle to costal cartilage of first rib
- sometimes not really visible, look for rough patch near sternal end
trapezoid line
- runs obliquely from conoid tubercle to lateral/acromial end
- attachment of trapezoid ligament
subclavian groove
- indentation between conoid tubercle and impression for costoclavicular ligament
- subclavius muscle attachment
- on inferior surface
subscapular fossa
indentation/pit in the centre of the anterior surface below scapular notch
coracoid process
curved hook like projection above lateral angle
protrudes anteriorly and slightly laterally
scapular notch
groove medial to coracoid process
location of the suprascapular nerve
small notch above subscapular fossa
