nausea, vomiting, dysphagia, post-prandial abdominal pain, GERD

Treatment for delayed gastric emptying
A
- remove causes
- low-fat diet, avoid large meals
- metoclopramide, erythromycin, prokinetics

What are symptoms of dumping syndrome?
A
- most common post-op after gastric surgery
- 15-30 min after eating –> nausea, non-productive vomiting, sweating, flushing, abdominal cramping, diarrhea

Treatment for dumping syndrome
A
- 6-8 small, low CHO meals/day
- avoid excess liquids
- avoid use of opiates and anticholinergic drugs

Diagnostic study if suspicious for gastric cancer
A
double contrast barium study
endoscopic biopsy
