Luther believed that purgatory was a myth made up by the church as it was not in the bible.

Why did charles V summon Luther to the diet of worms?
Luther was selling pamphlets defying the pope aswell as writing and selling books criticsing Indulgences, Puragtory, Expectations of preists. And threatening Charles’ power.

After being given a day to answer the question ‘Do you take any of it back’ Luther gave a speech that stood by his critiscims. he was then declared as a heretic but was allowed to leave under the protection of frederick the great he then spent the rest of his days translating the bible.
what where luthers ideas?
Luther rejected the Popes claim to be head of the catholic church and encouraged monarchs to challenge the pope.
He believed that priests did not have a special link to god just because they led the mass and therefore they should marry like everyone else.
He wanted to translate the bibles into local language so follows could see for themselves what the bible says.
