Unit Seven Atmosphere - Wind and Pressure Relationships Flashcards
Which way does wind blow?
Wind blows from a High Pressure to a Low Pressure.
Which way does wind blow in high pressure?
Wind blows out away from the center and clockwise of a high pressure point.
Which way does wind blow in low pressure?
Wind blows in toward to the center and counterclockwise of a low pressure point.
What is the cycle of sea breeze?
During the daytime, the sea is cooler at 70 degrees faranheit.
The land is warmer at 80 degrees faranheit.
Since the sea is cooler, that is where the high pressure is.
Since the land is warmer, that is where the low pressure is.
Wind blows from high pressure to low pressure.
When air molecules reaches the low pressure, it heats up and rises.
When these air molecules are higher in the troposphere, the temperature decreases.
As a result, that cold air sinks in to the ocean.
Cycle Repeats.
What is the cycle of land breeze?
During the nightime, as it is known the temperature decreases.
The ocean has a lot of static energy.
This makes heating up the ocean incredibly hard because there needs to be a lot of energy.
However, the land can be easily cooled up and takes less energy.
The sea is warmer and therefore has the low pressure point.
The land is cooler and therefore it has the high pressure point.
Wind blows from high to low.
When the wind reaches the low pressure point, it heats up and rises.
As a result, it reaches the upper part of the troposphere and it cools down.
Therefore, the air sinks down to the high point.
Cycle repeats.
