Question 2 “Flip-flop Sandals Linked to Rising Youth Heel Pain Rate”

  1. Why do flip-flops contribute to this condition?
A

Katarina’s Response: Flip-flops lack arch support because of their paper-thin soles and can accentuate any preexisting abnormal biomechanics in foot motion. Obesity can come from a highly sedentary lifestyle due to a lack of physical activity which can contribute to conditions like plantar fasciitis.

Question 4 “Why icing a sprain doesn’t help, and could slow recovery”

  1. Ice may reduce swelling and inflammation, but why might this slow healing of an injury?
A

TBD

Katarina’s Response: Icing an injury may slow the healing process because it interferes with inflammation or the body’s response which promotes long-term recovery and recuperation. Also, there is no strong scientific evidence that shows icing helps soft tissue injuries in the long term either.

Question 5 “Heal Thyself: Most who tear Achilles tendon can skip surgery”

  1. According to this article, if you discover an Achilles tear two weeks after it occurred, is a surgical or non-surgical approach recommended?
A

TBD

Katarina’s Response: A surgical approach is recommended after two weeks because the Achilles may not have healed properly and surgeons can help fix the tendon more precisely.
