Why do reptiles seek shade above a certain temperature?
A
As temperature increases in ectotherms the metabolic heat generation becomes more rapid, so they gain heat more quickly than they can lose it.
Their enzymes are at risk of denaturing, they hide in the shade to cool down as they don’t have a physiological process to cool down.
