Define Public
people making a community, state, or country.
Define Community
social group in a specific location with the same government, culture and background. Of any size.
Health Equity
giving people the same opportunities despite age/$/etc.
Social Determinants of Health
the environment you’re born into. Can’t choose.
5 groups: economic stability, education accessibility, healthcare accessibility, neighborhood environment, community
Incidence
Think like “whoops!”. amount of new cases.
Prevalence
Think like precedence. Amount of cases already. Baseline.
Epidemiological triangle
breakdown of disease in 3 categories; biological, social, and physical environment.
Ex. Strength/virulence of virus, host vulnerable (diathesis), and environmental exposure factors including length of time exposed.
Web of Causality
catches more complex factors in increasing or decreasing chance of disease.
Epidemiologic
acts as liaison and reporter for disease in the community. Tries to find the source of disease. Reports TB, gonnerhea, and gastroenteritis in community along w associated race, sex, socioeconmic status, and age of each person.
Primary Examples
Banning hazardous material (lol), education for smoking/ETOH prevention.
Secondary
Yearly physical, low dose aspirin, ergonomic adjustments, guaiac stool samples, tx of infection and dental care.
Tertiary
Vocational rehab (take care of everything and above) support groups.
Medicare
> 65 yo’s who get social security benefits, disability benefits. 4 parts: A is hospice. B is skilled. C is a combo. D is for medication.
Medicaid
for low income.
What may a person have a referral to?
To acute care, home care/heath, meals on wheels, social workers, case management, transportation.
