Ability to perceive an auditory signal as coming from a distinct set of sources
- segregate sounds that belong to different parts
- integrate sounds that belong to the same part

Gestalt grouping principles (4)

A
  1. good continuation: two con’t sound sources that back off eachother
  2. closure: fill in missing pieces that make sense to us in tones
  3. proximity: how similar the freq. are (if close we group them together)
  4. similarity: timbre (if they sound the same we will group them as coming from the same source)
