Unit 4.1 Flashcards
1
Q
Auditory scene analysis
A
Ability to perceive an auditory signal as coming from a distinct set of sources
- segregate sounds that belong to different parts
- integrate sounds that belong to the same part
2
Q
Gestalt grouping principles (4)
A
- good continuation: two con’t sound sources that back off eachother
- closure: fill in missing pieces that make sense to us in tones
- proximity: how similar the freq. are (if close we group them together)
- similarity: timbre (if they sound the same we will group them as coming from the same source)
3
Q
What gestalt principle does the scale illusion use?
A
proximity
4
Q
Stream segregation - timing
A
- loss of rhythmic info
- repetition
5
Q
Stream segregation - pitch height
A
- loss of rhythmic info
- ie. slower speed hear groups of 3, faster speed we hear continuous notes
6
Q
Stream segregation - repetition
A
- repetition
- with fewer repetitions we hear the groups
- with more repetitions the groups cannot be distinguished
