Unit 4: immunology; Lymphatic system Flashcards
1
Q
Lymphatic system components
A
Lymph: A clear fluid that circulates throughout the lymphatic system to help fight infections and remove waste products.
Lymphatic Vessels: network of tubes transport lymph throughout the body, moves lymph fluid and return it to the bloodstream.
Lymph Nodes: filter lymph and trap bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances.
Lymphatic Organs:
Spleen
Thymus
Tonsils
2
Q
functions of lymphatic system
A
- return of fluid to the cardiovascular system
- maturation og lymphocytes
- transports of fats and dietary substances absorbed in the small intestine
3
Q
lymph and lymphatic capillaries
A
Lymphatic vessels form a network of capillaries in tissue spaces that start at dead ends and pick up tissue fluid
Once tissue fluid enters lymphatic system, it becomes lymph and eventually drains into cardiovascular system
