Ambivalence

e. g. John felt some ambivalence about getting married before finishing college.
Ambrosia
(n) something delicious; food of the gods - Ambrosial (adj)
e. g. The combination of flavors in the Moroccan baked eggplant was pure ambrosia
Ameliorate
(v) to improve
e. g. The reform did much to ameliorate living standards
Amenable
(adj) easily persuaded, agreeable, cooperative, suited
e. g. The young writer is amenable for suggestions to make her writing style better
Amenity
(n) something that increases comfort
e. g. Many amenities considered normal and necessary by people in developed countries, such as indoor plumbing, were luxuries only a few generations ago.
Amulet
(n) ornament worn as a charm against evil spirits
Anachronism
(n) something out of the proper time
e. g. The town is a throwback to medieval times, an anachronism that has survived the passing years
Analgesic
(n) medication that reduces or eliminates pain

(adj) comparable
e. g. The psychology researcher’s experiment postulates that the brain is analogous to a digital computer.
Postulate
(v) to suggest or accept that sth is true so that it can be used as the basis for a theory, etc
e. g. They postulated a 500-year lifespan for a plastic container.
Scant
(adj) hardly any, not very much and not as much as there should be
e. g. I paid scant attention to what she was saying.
Anarchy
(n) absence of government; state of disorder
