Covetous
(adj) desiring something owned by another

e.g. The astronomer is covetous of the time that his colleague gets for research using the Hubble space telescope.
Cozen
(v) to mislead by trick or fraud; deceive
e. g. Do not think to cozen your contemporaries.
Craven
(adj) cowardly
e. g. A craven abdication of his moral duty.
Credence
(n) acceptance of something as true
e. g. Psychoanalysis finds little credence among laymen.
Credo
(n) statement of belief or principle; creed
e. g. The credo of Google is “Don’t be evil.”
Daunt
(v) to discourage; intimidate; dishearten
- Daunting (adj): discouraging; disheartening
- Dauntless (adj): fearless
e.g. Do not let the difficulty of learning the 800 words in Essential Words for the GRE daunt you.
Dearth
(n) a scarcity or lack of something
e. g. There is a dearth of evidence.
Debauchery
(n) corruption
e. g. The prince lived a life of debauchery until he found a spiritual dimension to life.
Decorum
(n) proper behavior

Defame
(v) to malign; harm someone’s reputation
e. g. The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates was defamed as a teacher who corrupted the morals of his students.
Malign
(v) speak about (someone) in a spitefully critical manner
e. g. Don’t you dare malign her in my presence.
