e. g. There is no model of expository prose that a student can emulate, since each piece of good writing is unique.

(adj) in existence; not lost
e. g. Unfortunately for Bible scholars, there are no extant writings of Jesus Christ.
Extemporaneous
(adj) unrehearsed
e. g. I enjoyed speaker’s extemporaneous remarks more than her prepared speech, because they gave me insight into her personality that helped me understand the decisions she made during her time as a federal judge.
Extirpate
(v) to root up; to destroy
e. g. The new federal prosecutor promised voters that he would extirpate corruption in the state.

(adj) not essential
e. g. The encyclopedia editors worked hard to cut out extraneous materials so that readers could find information easily on a given subject.

(n) the act of estimation by projecting known information
