Unit 3- Types of Joints Flashcards
synarthrosis/ fibrous joints
joints that do not move –> locked in place
sutures (synathrosis)
- joints that closely connect things
–> skull sutures
syndesmosis (synarthrosis)
joints that join 2 bones by a membrane between them
–> the radius and ulna or the fibula and tibia
amphiarthrosis/cartilaginous
joints that are somewhat moveable

diarthrosis/synovial
joints that are freely moveable
synovial fluid (diarthrosis)
thick fluid found in the joint cavity that prevents friction between joints during movement
joint cavity (diarthrosis)
space where two bones touch, holds synovial fluid
bursae
thin fluid-filled sacs that prevent friction between tendons and bones at joints
tendon sheath
