Blind/Visually impaired

A

Ask the individual how they want to be supported.
Give specific directions
Give some assistance rather than giving directions, if wanted.
Careful in approach/conversation to not startle the service user.
Do not touch guide dogs!
Don’t shout/yell at the service user.
Direct questions to the service user, not their companion/professional help.
Always provide verbal cues, explain what you are going to do.

Use a hearing aid
Stand within 3 feet
Close windows/doors to avoid background noise
Face the person
Provide time to allow them to process what you have said/asked.
