Unit 2 Flashcards
What is the pattern destruction found in fibroxanthoma?
geographic w/or w/out surrounding sclerosis
Fibroxanthoma is found in what location w/in lower extremity long bones?
metaphyeal, cortical orientation is eccentric femur and tibia
Note: lesions appear to grow
What radiographic features are observed w/fibroxanthoma?
Geographic,
eccentric, metaphysis,
lucent (ground glass fibrous mineralization),
cortical expansion (less likely) cortical thinning (more common)
periostitis absent unless recent
Pth fox NOT unusual
An occult fracture is suspected in fibroxanthoma. What is the next appropriate action?
If absent what is the correct action?
MRI, if absent Do Not Touch which tend to heal on their own
What tumor is known as the Do Not Touch Me Lesions and why?
Fibroxanthoma
note: typically the small lesions because spontaneous regression
What complications are seen with fibroxanthoma?
Hint: this more likely to occur with 50 percent or more bone is involved
pathologic fracture
What common benign bone lesion occurs prior to second decade of life?
fibroxanthoma
What is unique about Fibrosarcoma?
has largest age range total age range 4-83 typical range 30-50 ave age 38 no predilection
What is a fibrosarcoma?
poor to well differentiated fibrous tissue
not associated w/ cartilage/osteoid matrix
What is the MC location for Enchondroma?
What specific location w/in bone?
short tubular bones
metaphysis of long bones
What is the mc benign tumor of hand?
Enchondroma
An Enchondroma malignancy degenerates into what condition?
Chondrosarcoma
What are the signs/symptoms of Enchondroma?
non-painful
fractures are common
enchondromatosis (Ollie’s dz: multiple enchondromas mc in kids in shortened extremities)
What are the radiographic features of Enchondroma?
Short bone:well defined cartilage tumor matrix geographic destruction cortical expansion possible Endosteal scalloping Long bones: flocculant Ca no lucency
What is the 2nd mc Benign tumor of the patella
chondroblastoma
