Unit 10 Sensory Systems Flashcards
Name 3 sensory receptor types
- a neuron with free ending dendrites (pain and temperature)
- a neuron with an encapsulated ending (pressure and touch receptors)
- specialized receptor cell (light receptors)
These 3 receptors are classified based on the location of the stimuli
Exteroreceptor - located near stimulus in the environment (located on the skin)
Interoreceptor - interrupt from internal organs and tissues (sense blood pressure)
Proprioreceptors - near a moving part of the body (receptors in the muscles)
Name Functional Receptor Types
**respond to type of stimuli
chemoreceptors - detect chemical stimuli (taste, smell, pain, and solute)
Mechanoreceptor - interpret physical stimuli (press, vibration, sound, body position)
Thermoreceptor - sensitive to temperature changes
Photoreceptors - detect light
What are the parts of the ear and their functions?
External ear - collects and focuses sounds waves
middle ear - transmits the sounds waves
inner ear - traduces the sounds waves into a neuronal signal
What is the external ear composed of?
the auricle, auditory canal (ear canal), tympanic membrane
What does the middle ear consist of?
mallues, incus, staples
tympanic cavity
What are the is in the inner ear?
Vestubule, vestibular nerve, cochlea, cochlear nerve
round window, eustachian tube
