Unit 1(Topic 1) Flashcards
What is the difference between a fluid and a non-fluid?
A fluid is tightly packed particles that are of one, and non-fluids are not of one and they are usually little solids put together(ex, sand)

Definition: Fluidity
The ability to flow
Definition: Solid
A state of matter in which a substance has a definite shape and volume.
Definition: Liquid
A state of matter in which it gas a definite volume, but no definite shape
Definition: Gas
A state of matter in which it has an indefinite shape and volume.
Particle model of matter: Step one
All substances are made of tiny particles.(pg 8-10)
Particle Model of Matter: Step two
All particles in a pure substance are the same. Different pure substances are made of different particles.(pg 8-10)
Particle Model of Matter: Step three
The particles have spaces between them.(pg 8-10)
Particle Model of Matter: Step Four
The Particles are always in motion-vibrating, rotating, and(in liquids and gases) moving from place to place. The speed of the particles increases when the temperature increases/decreases. (Pg 8-10)
Particle Model of Matter: Step five
The particles in a substance are attracted to one another. The strength of the attractive forces depends on the type of particle.(pg 8-10)
Change of state occurs when…
A substance is cooled/heated and the particles gain/lose energy.
Melting:
Solid to liquid
Freezing:
Liquid to solid
Condensation:
Gas to liquid
Vaporization:
Liquid to gas
Evaporation is a —- form of vapoization
