Unit 1 Secion 1: prokaryotic cells Flashcards
Prokaryotic/eukaryotic cell size
Prokaryotic - extremely small, less than 2um diameter
Eukaryotic - Larger Cells, 2-200um diameter
Prokaryotic/eukaryotic DNA
Prokaryotic - No nucleus, DNA free in cytoplasm, DNA is circular
Eukaryotic- Nucleus Present, DNA inside nucleus, DNA is Linear
Prokaryotic/eukaryotic Cell wall
Prokaryotic - Cell wall made of polysaccharide called “PEPTIDOGLYCAN”
Eukaryotic - No cell wall in animal cells, cellulose cell wall in plants, chitin cell wall in fungi
Prokaryotic/eukaryotic Membrane bound organelles
Prokaryotic - no membrane bound organelles
eukaryotic - many membrane bound organelles
e.g. mitochondria, SER, RER, lysosomes
Prokaryotic examples
Bacterium, e.g. E.coli or Salmonella
Eukaryotic examples
Human liver cell, Yeast, Amoeba
