- has experienced the world’s largest internal population movement

What are the physical factors causing China’s internal distribution?
A
- east & south coast → consists of fertile soils (agriculture)
- south → hilly and mountainous terrain
- west & north → sunken basins, rolling plateaus and towering massifs → contains part of the highest land on earth, the Tibetan Plateau → has much lower agricultural potential

- traditionally, population centred on the chinese central plan → oriented itself toward its own enormous inland market whose centre lay in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River

A
- economic development been more rapid in coastal provinces due to the open-door policy
- wealthiest regions along southeast coast (Lower Yangtze, Pearl River Delta, Bohai Gulf)
