Define malnourishment
Eating wrong amounts or wrong types of food. Not having a right balance which can effect the body and skeleton.
Define starvation
Extreme cases of not eating enough food.
define obese
Extremely overweight.
define deficiency
A lack of vitamins and minerals, causing poor growth and health problems.
What is our source of energy and why do we rely on it?
Energy comes from the food we eat.We need it to be able to perform daily life processes.
State the units of energy
- The energy in foods are measured in joules (J) or kilojoules ( Kj) and calories (cal) or kilocalories (kcal)

1 kilocalorie : 1000 calories - 1 calorie = 4.18 joules
Explain the difference of energy levels between an office worker and a construction worker
An accountant sitting in a desk all day needs less calories than a builder who is moving around all day due to their different levels of activity.
What does eating too much and eating too little cause
Eating too much can cause weight gain if a person doesn’t move ( isn’t active) and eating too little can cause nausea and fatigue and low energy levels ( lethargic).

What are the effects of having to little nutrients.
Too little nutrients can lead to starvation and deficiency which can cause major health problems and poor growth.
What are the two types of malnourishment
Obesity: overweight
Starvation: underweight
How do people gain weight ( become obese)
Some people take in more energy than they use up. They risk becoming fat. People who are overweight for their height are called OBESE.
