Ecosystems Flashcards
Define ecosystem
The name given to the interaction of plants and animals and their habitat in a particular location.
Define abiotic
Non-living part of an ecosystem. E.g: Sunlight, water, soil , wind
Define biotic
Living part of an ecosystem . E.g: Plants and animals
Define population
Number of plants or animals of the same type that live in the same area
Define community
The collection of different organisms present in an ecosystem
Define habitat
PLace when organisms live
Define niche
It is the particular place or role an organism has in it’s ecosystem
Define decomposers
They are organisms that break down dead organic material
What do ecosystems contain
Ecosystems contain communities which contain population.
What do all the populations in a community do
They depend on eachtoher for survival
Fill in the blanks:
The number of different ———- (living things) in an ecosystem can change all the time.
———- feed from their ——– and rely on them to survive.
If the number of ——— increases, then there will be more prey eaten and the number of prey will go ———-.
If the number of predators ————-, there will be less ——— being eaten and the number of prey will —————.
Organisms can ——— because of the following reasons: ——, climate change, hunting, humans using land, ————, natural disasters.
The number of different organisms (living things) in an ecosystem can change all the time.
Predators feed from their prey and rely on them to survive.
If the number of predators increases, then there will be more prey eaten and the number of prey will go down.
If the number of predators decreases, there will be less prey being eaten and the number of prey will increase.
Organisms can die because of the following reasons: disease, climate change, hunting, humans using land, predators, natural disasters.
How do we calculate rate
Whatever you need the rate of/time
