U2 Section 3: Marriage And The Family Flashcards
A) Re-marriage
Marrying again after being divorced from a previous marriage.
B) Why do you agree with contraception?
Yes because…
It protects against STIs and prevents unwanted births.
Protestants allow it because…
It raises the standard of living and education because it limits family size.
Also, God created sex for enjoyment and to cement the bonds of marriage not just for procreation.
C) Why do some Christian’s not allow divorce?
Christians have different attitudes because they interpret the Bible differently and disagree about whether marriage is a sacrament.
Roman Catholics believe there can be no divorce as marriage is a sacrament in which the couple promise to stay together until death. The. Catholic Church which doesn’t allow it as…
Jesus banned divorce
When people marry they make a covenant with God which cannot be broken without Gods consent, thus a couple can never be divorced according to Gods law.
C) Why do some Christians allow divorce?
Most protestant Christians disapprove of divorce but believe that if marriage does wrong and there is no chance of bringing the couple back together, then divorce can be permitted.
Also they allow divorce because…
God is always prepared to forgive sins if people are determined to live a new life .
In Matthews Gospel, Jesus allows divorce for adultery.
D)i) Why is family life more important for religious people?
There are a lot of Christian teachings in family life etc. As well as this, the family life was created as the basic unity of society and as the only place in which children should be brought up. Thus it’s the most important part of society and without it society would collapse. Also, the family is the place in which children learn the difference between right and wrong, so that without the family there would be more evil in the world. Lastly, the family is the place where children are introduced to the faith through baptism/dedication and then through being taken to church to worship, Sunday schools etc. This means family life is very important for Christianity to grow.
D)ii) Why might some people disagree with you about family life?
Some people may disagree with me for example atheists because they believe that you don’t have to be religious to believe that family life is important. For many non-Christians, it’s one of the main purposes of life so that they give and receive love, but also their genes can be passed onto the next generation.
As well as this, they may have been brought up in a non-religious family and they still feel that it is very important to them.
