Phonology
How sounds are pronounced in a word. Sound based.
Morphology
How words are formed and how they relate to other words within the same language. Word based.
Syntax
Grammatical rules that govern a language. Sentence based.
Semantics
Meaning of the sentence. Ex.) “thing” but not specifying.
Pragmatics
Using appropriate sentences in appropriate environments. How language is used in day to day life. Ex.) “How cool is that?” at a funeral.
Articulation
The way sounds or words are produced or pronounced. When someone can’t pronounce a sound they may substitute it, replace it, or delete it to make pronunciation easier.
Fluency
The flow and smoothmess of words when communicating. Stuttering affects fluency.
Voice
Involves loudness, projection, and pitch.
Suprasegmentals
Placing empasis on ceratin words or parts to alter meaning of sentences. Rising vs. Falling Sentences.
Language
Primary vehicle of human communication. Includes expression and reception.
Speech
Means of language expression. More expresion related and not reception.
