Visual guidance
- leaner watches a model to form a mental image
- e.g. demonstration, picture, charts, guid lines
Verbal guidance
- learner is told what to do
- spoken instruction
- good for feedback
Manual guidance
- leaner is given physical support by the teacher
- manipulating the learners body to try develop kinaesthesias
Mechanical guidance
- learner uses equipment or apparatus to help performance
- supports the body through the movement using apparatus to develop confidence

Benefits:
- forms mental picture, increases understanding of movements, correct errors
Drawbacks:
- not effective if demonstrated wrong, loose impact if its too complicated, supported with verbal

Benefits;
- understanding of detail, good at autonomous stage, focus on key aspects
Drawbacks:
- not effective if too much -tive feedback, information overload, hard for cognitive

Benefits;
- correct errors, confidence, kinaesthesias, good for cognitive
Drawbacks:
- can’t correct the errors themselves, false confidence, over reliance
