Statutory/maintained settings
A maintained or statutory setting are those controlled by a local authority.
Voluntary settings
A voluntary setting is operated by a management comittee of volunteers.
Private settings
A private setting are not funded by the government unless they have a child with an EHCP that has the school named in it. Parents need to pay for the child to attend the provision and they’re very strict on entry requirements.
Independent settings
An independent setting are also not funded by the government and they do not have the SEND rule about government funding.
Home schooling
Children being home schooled must have access to a full time curriculum but doesn’t have to follow the National Curriculum.
