Academies
They’re inspected by OFSTED and teach core subjects but have a lot more freedom within the curriculum.
- They’re run by a charitable trust.
- Pupils must sit National Curriculum assessments.
- Funding is from central government.
Free schools
Can decide whether they want to follow the national curriculum or not.
- They can decide the lengths of school times and terms.
- Funding is not from the local authority but from the central government.
Private schools
They charge fees to attend and do not recieve general government funding. They do not follow the National Curriculum and they’re inspected by the ISI.
Home schooling
All parents have the right to choose to educate their child at home. In this case, they don’t have to follow the National Curriculum, however, the learning will be monitored by the local authority.
