Maintained schools Flashcards
What is a maintained school?
They’re funded by the local authority and provide primary and secondary settings.
Community schools
They’re state funded and must follow the National Curriculum. The school staffing structure will include non-teaching staff and an active governing body.
Voluntary controlled schools
They usually have foundation or trust status connected to a Christian denomination. The teaching and learning still remains the same as community schools.
Voluntary aided schools
At these settings, there is influence from the foundation or trust. However, the foundation/trust will contribute financially to upkeep the setting.
Foundation schools
They function in the same way as a maintained school. However, they have greater responsibility placed on them by the governing body.
How are maintained schools funded?
The government pass out money to local authorities and then the local authorities dish out the appropriate money to settings in their areas.
