production is the creation of goods and services for customers
primary production
the extraction of raw natural materials from land or sea

secondary production
conversion of raw materials to finished goods through MANUFACTURING
tertiary production
provision of services to the industry and to consumers
businesses in tertiary would be banking teaching or retail etc
changing trends: DEINDUSTRAILISATION (shift away)
trends move away from primary and secondary and towards tertiary.
primary declines because agriculture faces difficult times and natural resources decreases. secondary declines as goods are imported cheaper.

shift towards tertiary because demand for services increases more people begin spending money on leisure and entertainment letting more entrepreneurs enter the market to provide a service
