Q

Who did Tulving criticise?

A

Atkinson and Shiffrin, he said that the multi store model was too simplistic for long term memory and there are 3 stores of ltm.

Q

Summarise HM case study

A

-Amnesiac patient
-studied by brenda miller and colleagues over a 50 year period
-age of 7 Hm suffered a head injury, and started having epileptic seizures
-age of 27 HM was unable to work
-surgery on his brain
-left him with severe memory problems

9
Q

What did miller and colleagues conclude?

A

-Hm concluded that HM pattern of impairments suggested that stm ans ltm are distinct of memory and ltm has 2 distinct systems

Q

summarise Clive wearing case study

A

-brain infection- damaged his hippocampus left with anterograde amnesia
-his episodic memory was impaired
-procedural memory was intact
-semantic field was intact

16
Q

What are the problems with clinical evidence?

A
  • lack of control over variables
  • cannot establish cause and effect
17
Q

Summarise sematic memory

A

-general knowledge
-in prefrontal cortex
-personal events
-limited capacity
-can both be taught

18
Q

summarise procedural memory

A

-unconscious recall
