types of joints skeletal Flashcards
what is the articulation of a joint
where two or more bones meet to provide movement
what is the synovial membrane
secretes synovial fluid into joint cavity to lubricate the joint and absorb shocks
what is synovial fluid
viscous fluid that reduces friction and lubricates the joint between the articular cavity allowing a greater range of movement
what is a bursa
small fluid filled sack containing synovial fluid between the bones, tendons and muscles around the joint to provide protection from impact and therefore absorbs shock
what is a tendon
a tough fibrous tissue attaching bone to muscle
what is a ligament
tough fibrous tissue attaching bone to bone stabilising joints and preventing any unwanted movement e.g. hypertension
