Types of data Flashcards
1
Q
What is nominal data?
A
- Data in separate categories ‘Fall into this category’
- No overlap as categories are mutually exquisite
- Contains least amount of information
2
Q
What is Ordinal data?
A
- Where data is ordered such as the order people finish in a race
- Does not tell you how much difference between the data but simply in what order it is
3
Q
What is interval?
A
- Data measured using a public unit of measure such as for a race ‘seconds , minutes’ for weight ‘Pounds,Kilograms’
They are called public units because each unit has an agreed amount
-Contains most amount of information
4
Q
What is an advantage of interval data?
A
It gives more than just order as they also show how much difference there is between.
5
Q
What is the measure of central tendency for Nominal data?
A
Mode
6
Q
What is the measure of central tendency for Ordinal data?
A
Median
7
Q
What is the measure of central tendency for Interval data?
A
Mean
8
Q
What is the measure of dispersion for Ordinal data?
A
The range
9
Q
What is the measure of dispersion for Nominal data?
A
The variation ratio
10
Q
What is the measure of dispersion for Interval data?
A
The standard deviation
