Why are these types of experiment very reliable?
They are highly controlled allowing all variables to be controlled and therefore easily replicated
What is a Confounding variable?
Other variables which may effect the results and therefore give us a false set of results
What does it allow conclusions to be made on?
Cause and effect
What is an extraneous variable?
A variable which could effect the DV but is being controlled so that it doesn’t become a confounding variable
What is an IV sometimes seen as?
Cause
What is the DV sometimes seen as?
Effect
What do they lack?
ecological validity as they are very artificial
Why are they difficult to generalise?
People are asked to do unusual things that they would not usually do in everyday life
1 Weakness regarding the P knowing they are in an experiment?
They may therefore develop demand characteristics
1 weakness regarding ethics?
P’s nearly always need deceiving to some extent
