Q

What was our hypothesis?

A

Participants who process words semantically will remember significantly more words that P’s who process the words Phonetically and Structurally

6
Q

What is out null hypothesis?

A

There will be no significant difference between the number of words remembered that are processed semantically , phonetically or structurally and any difference would be due to chance.

13
Q

What 4 extraneous variables did we control?

A
  • Same words for each P
  • Same time for recall for each P
  • All words of similar difficulty 2-3 syllables
  • Conditions were counterbalanced

16
Q

In regard to withdrawal?

A

P’s told they could withdraw at any time in the study

17
Q

In regards to confidentiality?

A

Names were not used in the write up so P were kept confidential

18
Q

Procedure?

A
  • went into quiet social area on a Wednesday afternoon in November and approached the first student sitting alone
  • Asked them if they would participate in my psychology experiment
  • Told them they would be shown 18 words and then asked a simple yes or no question after each which they should right down
  • The question forced the P to process the word semantically,Phonetically or structurally
  • Next we told the P to count aloud from 18 backwards before writing down as many words as they could remember on a new sheet of paper
  • P was then debriefed
19
Q

What was the level of data used and why?

A

Interval because it was a precise measurement (Number of words remembered )

20
Q

2 ways the data could be recorded?

A
  • Table

- Bar graph
