Define quantitative data
Data that can be counted, usually given as numbers
Define qualitative data
Data expressed in words and non-numerical
What is primary data?
Information that has been obtained first hand by the researcher
What is secondary data?
Information that has been collected by somebody else and predates the current research project
What is meta-analysis?
“Research about research” refers to the process of combining results from a number of studies on a particular topic to provide and overall view
What are some examples of qualitative methods of data collection?
An interview or unstructured observation
What are some examples of quantitative methods of data collection?
The number of words recalled in a memory experiment
What are some examples of primary data?
Experiment, questionnaire, interview or observation
What are some examples of secondary data?
Journal articles, websites or books
