Types Of Contraction Flashcards
What is an isotonic muscle contraction?
With an isotonic muscle contraction the muscles changes length as it undergoes contraction.
This contraction can be separated into concentric and eccentric.
What is a concentric muscle contraction?
A concentric muscle contraction is when the muscle shortens as it undergoes contraction
e.g the bicep when lifting a dumbbell during a bicep curl.
What is an eccentric muscle contraction?
An eccentric muscle contraction is when the muscle lengthens as it undergoes contraction
e.g. the bicep when lowering a dumbbell.
What is an isometric muscle contraction?
An isometric contraction is when the muscle does not undergo any change in length when it contracts.
The muscle contracts to maintain the stability of the position of a body
e.g. a gymnast performing a handstand
