Tversky and Khanerman Flashcards
Aim
To demonstrate the effect of the anchoring bias on the estimation of values
Participants
High school students
Procedure
-Participants were split into 2 groups, the ascending and descending groups
-all participants were asked to estimate the total value of the math equation
-both groups were presented with the same math equation however the math equation was either arranged where the values ascended from low to high, or descended from high to low, this effected which value was seen first by the participants
Results
-The Ascending group had estimated a value significantly lower than the descending group
-This study provides evidence for the anchoring effect as the values seen first had caused a biased to the estimation of combined values
