Loftus and pickerel (1995) Flashcards
Aim:
To investigate if false memories of autobiographical events can be implanted through the power of suggestions
Participant:
3 males, 21 females, 31 in total
Procedure:
Before the experiment had begun, people close to the participants were interviewed, they were asked to give details about 3 childhood memories of the participants and asked if the participant had ever been lost in a mall. The participants themselves were then mailed a questionnaire, they were asked about 4 memories, 3 real, and 1 fake about them getting lost in a mall as a kid. They were asked to recall as much information as they could about each memory and rate each one on how confident they were on them 1 through 10.
Results:
About 25 per cent of the participants had “recalled” the false memory. However, this memory had the least detail written about it when compared to the other memories and was rated as the least confident.
