Glanzer and Cunnitz (1966) Flashcards
Aim
To investigate if the interval between words in a list would increase the amount of words remembered at the beginning of a list
Participants/Conditions
240 army enlisted men, split into 6 equal conditions. Each condition was given the same 20 one-syllable word list, however, there was 2 conditions with the interval of 3 seconds, 2 for 6 seconds, and 2 for 9 seconds. For each 2 conditions for each interval of seconds, there was an exact same condition except the world was repeated twice.
Procedure
For all conditions, after every word was read out, they were given 2 minutes to write down every word they were able to recall.
Results
The results indicated that the longer the interval between the words, the more words in general were able to be recalled, except for the words at the end of a list. This indicates the rehearsal effect in the multi-store memory modal. There was no significant difference in the conditions where the word was repeated twice when compared to when they were only said once.
