Define tricuspid regurgitation
Defined as blood flowing backwards through the tricuspid valve-usually during systole
Primary-valve is fucked
Secondary -valve is fine
can be common and asymptomatic to a mild degree
Aetiology and Risk factors for tricuspid regurgitation
Primary causes-usually congenital (cleft valve)
OR Aquired-Rheumathic fever, infective endocarditis, carcinoid syndrome, marfans
more common-secondary
Functional (RV DILATION-due to LV failure
Symptoms of tricuspid regurgitation
Fatigue- Hepatic pain on exerction fluid overload-ascites and oedema if LV related-->Dyspnoea, orthopnoa loss of appetite
Signs of Tricuspid regurgitation
Possible AF-palpitation and irregular heart beat
RAised JVP
RV heaves
Pansystolic murmur, at lower sternal angle at inspiration (carvallos)
pulsatile liver
jaundice
ascites
oedema
Investigations of Tricuspid regurgitation
ECG-meh-can show
AF
Echocardiogram-diagnostic
CXR-cardiomegaly
