What are cardiovascular diseases?
Any disease associated with the heart and blood vessels
What are arteries?
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart.
What is cholesterol?
Fatty substance that makes cell membranes, too much means blockages in arteries restricting blood flow
What happens when a blood clot happens?
Blocks blood flow around the body causing heart attack and the brain will have no oxygen which could cause a stroke .
How do you change your lifestyle to prevent CVD diseases?
Balanced diet
Lose weight
Stop smoking
Eat less fats
What do statins do?
Reduce fat in bloodstream reduces heart attack risk and stroke. Side effects aching muscles and liver damage
What are anticoagulants?
Drugs that make blood clots less likely , but this can cause excess bleeding if hurt in an accident
What are antihypertensives?
Reduce blood pressure , prevent blood vessel damage and less fatty deposits form . But cause headaches and fainting
What are some surgical procedures that repair damage to the body ?
Stents are tubes that widen arteries that allow more blood flow , but over time it can narrow and can irritate artery - scar tissue . Has to take drugs to make no blood clots.
Also a healthy vessel is taken out form somewhere else and put in a key place to keep life alive. This is done if the vessel is damaged. This is coronary bypass surgery
Donor heart, used new start but can be rejected and not pumping properly. Also have to take drugs to be normal.
What are negative effects of surgical procedures?
Bleeding
Clots
Infection
