Memory Lymphocytes And Immunisation Flashcards
What happens when a pathogen attacks the body? And when it comes back?
The body produces antibodies to get rid of the pathogen and eventually the body will overcome the infection. Now with that pathogen defeated, there will be some old lymphocytes that remember how to defeat the pathogen - memory lymphocytes. This is immunisation. If the same pathogen Attacks again the response is faster and it is gotten rid of very quickly
What do immunisation do and prevent?
A dead pathogen is injected into the body. So the white blood cells easily kill it , meaning that when a harder form of the pathogen attacks the body has a way to destroy it. It causes memory lymphocytes to form.
This means that you are less likely to get a disease due to your immunisation.
