treatment of psychosis Flashcards
1
Q
Psychosis
A
- loss of contact with reality
- distortion of mental capacity
- interferes with capacity to cope
2
Q
Symptoms
A
- hallucinations
- delusion
3
Q
dopaminergic effect
A
- overproduction of dopamine
- overstimulation of dopamine receptors
NOTE:
Block dopamine receptor
4
Q
Biochemical considerations
A
- balance of dopamine and acetylcholine receptor stimulation
- imbalance symptoms
- parkinson-like syndrome
- acute dystonic reaction
- tardive dyskinesia
- not treatable adverse reaction
- wil never go away (sucking, smacking of the lips, tounge in and out)
NOTE:
- Dpamine receptor block for a long time super sensitized receptors cause
*
5
Q
Therapeutic side effects
A
- sedation
- hypotension
- tachycardia
- photosensitivity (exagerated sun burn)
- decresed seizure threshould (more prone to seizures)
- anticholinergic
- dry mouth, blurry vision, dry eye, constipation, urinary retention
6
Q
aliphatic
A
- low potency, high sedation
- (uses grams high dose)
- high anticholinergic, low EPS
(2 receptors blocks Dopamine and AcH)
7
Q
piperazine
A
- high potency low anticholinergic
- Low dose in miligrams
- 1 receptor block (dopamine receptor)
- acute dystonic rxn.
8
Q
piperadine
A
- low potency, high anticholinergic
NOTE:
- high dose
- 2 receptor block EPS Low
9
Q
Butyrophenone
A
High potency, low anticholinergic
10
Q
Dibenzoxazepine
A
Clozapine- special use procedure, no tardive dyskinesia
NOTE:
jajor adverse reaction low white blood count
11
Q
therapeutic use
A
- psychosis
- anti- emetic
- intractable hiccups
NOTE:
- Register patient
- run blood test
- blood test registry
- pharmacy ok
- 7 days supply of medication
- blood test
- 7 days supply of medication
The repeats are FDA approved.
